Love is everywhere
Our culture brainwashes us with fake ideas about what brings true joy and stability. I discovered these come not from checking accomplishments off a list, but from opening my heart.
Several years ago I applied for a job opening with a local organization that I was really excited about. A friend of mine worked there and personally referred me. I was more than qualified. I spent hours updating my resume and crafting the perfect cover letter. I didn’t know the hiring manager personally, but she and I had several mutual friends and we also took classes at the same yoga studio, sometimes side by side.
I felt confident that I’d at least get an interview. But, the woman never even acknowledged my emails, even after I followed up.
When I look back on this disappointing incident, it’s with a shoulder shrug and an attitude of “It wasn’t meant to be.” In fact, I actually feel grateful now that it didn’t come to fruition, because in hindsight I see that the role would have been stressful and limiting.
Life sometimes works out for the best, even if we can’t always see it in the moment.
I’m getting better at recognizing this in real time, but a few years ago, it was much more of a struggle.
